Play Yellow — What’s Next?
It was fitting this past weekend that Rory McIIroy raised the FedEx Cup in Atlanta at the TOUR Championship. Early this season, McIlroy, along with other TaylorMade ambassadors, had been our first Play Yellow ambassadors with their yellow golf bags at THE PLAYERS Championship. As our own Play Yellow season for 2019 has come to a close, we are also celebrating this past year as we launched one of golf’s largest fund raising initiatives to date. What started with a press conference featuring Jack and Barbara Nicklaus, PGA TOUR Commissioner Jay Monahan, and our own Jon Lauck, has seen an industry embrace the call of supporting children’s hospitals across the country.
In 2019, we set out a goal to raise $100 million dollars through golf and this year has laid a solid foundation for us to achieve this goal. This year, we have onboarded over 10 new corporate partners*, generated tens of millions of media impressions, and captured the hearts of golf fans who want to support their local children’s hospital. At the center of this initiative has been Jack and Barbara Nicklaus, who have passionately supported this initiative at every opportunity. From THE PLAYERS Championship to The Masters Tournament to the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide, Mr. and Mrs. Nicklaus have been looking for any and every way to tell people about Play Yellow.
While we are celebrating the success of 2019, there is still much work to do for us to get to our goal of $100 million. We have been busy planning for 2020 since July and will be announcing these plans at the Fall Business Meeting in September. We will be sharing some exciting plans on how our hospital partners can further engage with Play Yellow in their markets during 2020. We look forward to seeing many of you in Salt Lake City in September.
If you have any questions until then, please feel free to reach out to Chad Phillips, SVP, Play Yellow at cphillips@cmnhospitals.org.
