Louisville’s Norton Children’s Hospital added to its “Just for Kids” Transport Team Fleet

On May 28, Children’s Miracle Network Hospital’s Louisville, Kentucky hospital partner, Norton Children’s Hospital, added a new member to its “Just for Kids” Transport Team fleet.

The new Airbus EC-145 helicopter will be used to transport critically ill patients from communities throughout Kentucky and Indiana to Norton Children’s Hospital. It is expected to make up to 300 runs a year. The helicopter is customized for patient care and fully stocked with the latest devices and equipment to treat the most complex medical cases. Its onboard instrumentation allows the helicopter to fly in poor visibility, even when traditional emergency helicopters can’t.

This addition will also allow a pediatric transport team to be exclusively dedicated to Norton Children’s Hospital.

“Historically we’ve shared a unit with the adult hospitals downtown, so this really is a differentiator for us,” Lynnie Meyer, Chief Development Officer for Norton Children’s, said. “We have two full-service transport teams that support the work of the hospital. As the only free-standing, full-service hospital in Kentucky, it’s important that we can reach children and bring them here in a timely manner.”

The Children’s Hospital Foundation, in partnership with Speedway, has provided more than $3.6 million to support the transport team fleet.

We are excited for this new edition to the hospital’s team and happy that CMN Hospital’s Corporate Partner, Speedway, could help to make this possible for the children in these communities.
