Market Alignment Project Committee Update – July 2018
Dear Fellow Chief Development Officers,
Over the last six weeks the Market Alignment Project (MAP) subcommittee have held two meetings specifically to frame the issue and identify key considerations. The subcommittee members are Sue Doliner (Maine Medical Center), Phil Salerno (Children’s Specialized Hospital), and Grant Stirling (Lurie Children’s Hospital). Both Teri Nestel and Shirley Rogers are providing vital support and experience from National’s perspective.
As with other projects undertaken by the CDO Advisory Committee, we have focused our efforts on the process and how to gain as many perspectives as is reasonable possible. So far, we have drafted a set of Guiding Principles and Trust Tenets and discussed what we think will be key steps and key stakeholders who should be consulted.
Our next two steps are to make a series of individual phone calls to other CDO’s who have had experience with a market alignment effort to learn what has worked or not worked in the past, along with what they might do differently today. We have also drafted a survey to be sent to all CDO’s next week to continue the data gathering process. Please do your best to complete the survey and return it by Friday, August 24.
Our objective is to share the results of the data collected at the CDO Summit during Fall Business Meetings on Thursday, October 4, 2018. The desire is to have healthy and robust dialogue about what we have learned and what we have missed along with confirmation that we are moving in the right direction.
All that said, please be assured of the following:
- There are no answers or preconceived ideas of what the recommendations will be at this time
- It looks like one size or model does not fit all
- This only involves market alignment issues between member hospitals;
- Adding new hospitals to the Network is outside the scope of the committee and is not being considered at all currently
- Your thoughts and feedback are essential to the success of this effort
Please feel free to reach out to any of the committee members, Teri or Shirley to discuss the alignment project.Best wishes for the rest of summer,
Sue, Phil and Grant
