Announcing Aflac Pilot Partnership

We are excited to announce the launch of a two-year nationwide pilot partnership between Aflac and Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Aflac has supported several member hospitals, including Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, for many years having raised more than $122 million for pediatric cancer. Today, we are excited to expand this partnership nationwide to increase support for pediatric cancer patients.

Each day, Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals treat 2,218 patients with pediatric cancer, and this partnership represents a bold way for our Network to begin highlighting its work and impact in this important area.

Through this pilot partnership, all funds raised should now be directed to pediatric cancer programs. Member hospitals should give their best effort to use any Aflac funds for pediatric cancer treatment, programs, research and other pediatric cancer initiatives. If hospitals do not have a formal pediatric cancer program, they can use the funds in areas where pediatric cancer patients may have been (or are being) impacted – i.e. rehab, child life, family services, key supplies/resources (i.e. gas cards to cover transportation to treatment center), etc. Please see the Aflac Partnership – Executive Summary for more information.

How funds are raised:

  • Consumer Fundraising: The public can now support CMN Hospitals at AflacChildhoodCancer.org.
  • Hero Duck Sales: Aflac will continue sales of the Hero Duck, which has proven to be popular among Aflac field agents as giveaways to a policyholder. With the sale of each Hero Duck, the local hospital will receive $3.25.
  • Grassroots Fundraising: Agents will also be encouraged to engage with their local CMN Hospital through fundraising and volunteering, where possible.
  • Dance Marathon: Aflac will sponsor up to 10 Dance Marathons in 2018/19. Several local Aflac offices are also sponsoring Dance Marathons.
  • Network Support: Aflac will sponsor both Dance Marathon Leadership Conference and #ChildrensHospitalsWeek in 2018 and 2019.
Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals will also have access to Aflac’s My Special Aflac Duck, free of charge. My Special Aflac Duck is an innovative and “smart” comforting companion for children who have cancer.

To help build this partnership, hospitals are encouraged to contact and engage with their local Aflac field teams and identify the best ways to collaborate and raise funds/awareness in their communities.

More information about the Aflac partnership is available in the overview above. If you have questions please contact Staci Cross, Vice President, Activation at scross@cmnhospitals.org.
