Walmart Campaign Update:

John Lauck connected with the Walmart Foundation President Kathleen McLaughlin where she informed him the company has instituted full focus on trying to reach the $40 million campaign goal.  On Monday, Doug McMillon, President and CEO Walmart Inc, messaged his expectation that all stores and clubs improve their results over the prior week.  Doug also recognized the markets that were exceeding goals. Kathleen believes that with Doug’s personal attention, there should be a marked increase over the previous week.  Our Board Of Trustee’s members from Walmart are also connecting with the WMT and Sam’s Club RVP’s to push for strong results this week.

Lastly, Kathleen recognized that with the hurricane and natural disaster relief, along with their reorganization, things fell short this year. However, she has ideas on areas where they can improve and will be meeting with the Walmart Executive Foundation Board (which includes Doug McMillon) on how to boost results moving forward.

What can I do:

Thanks for the continued support of your Program Directors and Foundation team as they visit and encourage associates to keep asking.  As the foundation leader here are a few best practices for consideration.

  • Peer to Peer Calls – Call your Regional Vice President(s) and Market Managers to thank them, share their fundraising results and suggest a plan for the final push. Such as:
    • Managers and associates are given a goal to reach  – whoever loses picks up shopping carts (this can be adapted to departments)
    • Jail and Bail – Provide a top Doc, Nurse, leadership etc., to be jailed at a Walmart or Sam’s Club – They are only released once they raise a specified amount of money (i.e, $500, $1,000 etc). Due to associate fatigue, seeing members of hospitals in the store asking for funds, may encourage them to continue asking.
